Chastity Belt

Presentation

In developing the project No Light, Yes Moves, performance “Chastity Belt”, was designed inspired by a wave of sexual harassment in public transport, which occurred in April 2014, in São Paulo. Associating the idea of ​​this event alarms that inform sound way undue drive, began the development.

Thus the Chastity Belt, takes shape out using the NLYM device installed in a female underwear and coupled with an audio player, which emits a sound message when a certain distance is exceeded, which can be controlled during the performance, alerting on irregular attitude about the body performance.

Method

A performer using the device and insinuates to people quietly during the performance, the implication becomes closer and thus triggering the alarm device and the performer shows scared harassment occurred.

The distance to the drive can be controlled by the performer, depending on the content of the dialogue with the interactor.

Conclusion

The discussion, humorous, that the work is proposed on the occupation of individual and collective spaces, the issue of social interaction and mutual respect.
From this premise, the sound emitted by the device message, alerts us to the limit that the performer puts the interactor during the performance revealing the reflection on the unintended interactions that occur in everyday life in public spaces that can be considered sexual harassment.
